Description
Muting the violin does more than tame its brilliance – it invites a different approach, drawing out a warmer, silkier tone. As the second voice of the muted string quartet, Synchron Solo Violin 2 (sordino) brings its own color and character to the ensemble. The instrument was performed by Damir Oraščanin, concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra, in the large Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage.

Just as in the original Synchron Solo Strings, Synchron Solo Violin 2 (sordino) is performed by a different artist on a different instrument than Solo Violin 1 – bringing a contrasting tone and feel that makes the muted quartet come alive in dialog and layered expression. Damir Oraščanin has served as concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra since 2020. Born in Belgrade, he studied in his hometown and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the Vienna Musikverein, and holds positions with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Volksoper. With the mute in place, his playing reveals a softer, more refined side of the second violin, without losing any of its individual personality.
