Description
The Zuckermann ‘King Of Sweden’ Clavichord
The Clavichord is a keyboard instrument that was commonly used in Europe from the 16th to the 18th century. A very quiet instrument, it was used as a practice instrument or as an aid to composition as it was not loud enough for public performances.
The Clavichord creates sound by striking brass or iron strings with small metal blades called ‘tangents’, and different notes can result from striking the same string at different places. You can also bend the pitch of the string by applying some key pressure, and this is used for vibrato or “bebung”. This is the oldest keyboard instrument with polyphonic aftertouch.
A typical Baroque or Classical sound, clavichords have also featured in modern music by Bjork & The Beatles.
The Kontakt Instrument
- THE MAIN PANEL – Two mic arrays & two sets of contact mics attached to the soundboard allow to you mix your sound with precision.
- EDIT PANELS – Clavichord can be taken further than a conventional sound if you desire. Use envelopes, LFOs and filters, allowing you to create varying sound textures and shapes. A powerful micro-tuning function offers tuning presets and user-defined custom scales.
- SETUP PANEL – Fine tune the response and performance of Clavichord – make the timing looser, randomise the keystrikes, and tweak instrument noise details.
- WEAVER – Create unique rhythmic patterns for each note you play. A bit like a delay effect but evolves differently according to what you play – strands of sound weave in and out of each other.
- JAMMER – The latest evolution of our generative arpeggiator – Hold a chord, and let it evolve – or loop a section and jam between 12 sequences.
- PHRASER – Record short phrases then manipulate them as you play – backwards, forwards, randomly – generating new melodic ideas and sequences.
- THE FX PANEL – Clavichord features a comprehensive effects page, with a configurable insert chain featuring Replika, Phasis and other cutting-edge NI effects. The Space Reverb module features Soniccouture’s custom impulse library built up over many years and recording sessions.
The Instrument
Soniccouture´s clavichord was designed after an anonymous instrument that was in a collection of instruments belonging to the King of Sweden. It’s a customised Zuckermann King of Sweden model built by Victor Mio of Canada.
