Virtual Instrument

Harrington Bassoon is a versatile legato bassoon library featuring performances by Kody Harrington, principal bassoonist of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra (Texas). Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, it delivers a responsive, emotive, and agile instrument suited for various orchestral contexts.

The “Workhorse” patch offers a balanced mezzo-forte dynamic, while “Emotional” provides expressive, lyrical performances at mezzo-piano, also capable of lighter, more playful passages. Marcato Legato variations enhance phrasing options (detailed in the manual), including a polyphonic marcato patch with dynamic range.

Breath samples were captured throughout, adding realism when placed before or between phrases.

For “Workhorse” and “Emotional” patches, velocities 1-30 trigger a softer attack, 31-114 introduce a stronger attack with round robins, and 115-127 engages immediate vibrato after the attack.

“Marcato Legato” follows similar velocity ranges, with 115-127 activating the marcato articulation. “Marcato Legato Pesante” focuses on marcato sustains at velocities 31-127, while 1-30 triggers a soft attack.

The “Breaths” patch contains various inhale samples, enhancing realism when woven between phrases.

The Artist

Kody Harrington, the principal bassoonist of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra (TX), is pursuing an Artist Diploma at Oberlin Conservatory. He has performed with multiple symphonies, holds degrees from Baylor University and The University of Texas at Austin, and has attended prestigious summer festivals like Aspen and Brevard.
